Although the Town Code reads as follows: “The town code: Signs can be put up 45 days before each election (primary & general) The code allows candidates if in a primary to keep their signs up through the general election, then 7 days after they must be taken down.”
Yes, according to the code, we can keep our signs up all summer untill the general election, but at the time the code was written it was with the understanding that the primary would be in September, not June. That changed as of 2019.
I will be taking my signs down within 7-10 days after the primary for the summer and putting them back up after Labor Day. It is our teams opinion that it is unnecessary to have them up littering the landscape. Candidates get an opportunity to get their names out there so the people of Grand Island know who is running, but too much of a good thing is just too much. It is my hope that the other candidates will take our lead in trying to not inconvenient the residents with the clutter any longer than necessary.
Thank you for your patience with the signs. My team is making an effort to keep them neat as possible.
